How To Disney As An Adult
An obnoxious Tweet went viral last week concerning a mother’s thoughts on childless millennials at Disney theme parks. While the said tweet had been published well over a year ago, that didn’t stop a massive uproar from making waves throughout the internet. To save you the eye roll, basically, the tweet says that adults without children shouldn’t be allowed in Disney theme parks because they make the lines longer. Oh, and they make children cry.
The clap back on this insinuation wasn’t pretty. The internet did what it does best and put the woman in her place by offering assurances that adults will continue to be present at Disney parks. And for those who want to make the best of the adult Disney vacation, It’s Your Dream Travel wanted to give you 10 ways to Disney as an adult!
10. Take A Food Tour
If you’re an avid reader of the Disney Food Blog like I am, then you will know there are more than enough food options at Disney parks to make a day of it. I recommend starting at Walt Disney World (or Disneyland) and just go to town. There are plenty of meal options, but if you want to dip your nose in a variety of food options, stick with the snacks. There is everything from loaded Galaxy fries from Casey’s Corner to Cheshire Cat Tails and the famous Dole Whip!
9. Try the Alcohol
Speaking of Dole Whip, did you know that these come with alcohol know? You can get loaded Dole Whip at select locations, but Disney parks offer too many alcoholic libations to simply stick to one. The Grand Marnier Orange Slush is probably the most popular adult-friendly beverage, with the Ice Cream Martini at the France Pavilion making a close second. EPCOT will be your best bet for a plethora of alcohol options from cocktails to beer and wine.
8. Buy Disney Adult Souvenirs
Just being you’re an adult at Disney doesn’t mean that there aren’t souvenirs for you. In lieu of stuffed animals and autograph books, adults can invest in selfless gifts such as collectible items, souvenirs, and apparel. And hello, pin trading anyone? Plus the famous Mickey ears are appropriate for adults at Disney just as much as they are for kids!
7. Bring Your Friends
Another sure-fire way to get under the skin of mothers who want to rave about childless millennial to is to bring your friends to Disney! There are so many activities tailored specifically for adults. And what better way to experience them than with a group of your friends? You can hang out at Disney Springs, go to one of the two full-service spas, or take part of the unofficial Monorail Crawl. The latter of which is an activity where you make stops using the monorail at The Contemporary, The Polynesian, and The Grand Floridian and hit up as many bars as you can.
6. Disney Bound
Disney may have strict rules for wearing full-fledge cosplays to the parks, but there is nothing wrong with a bit of Disney Bounding. In fact, this type of dress is made for adults at Disney. Disney Bounding is where you take the general look or color scheme of your favorite Disney character and find creative ways to showcase it into your wardrobe. Generally, the outfit can’t be too flashy or reminiscent of the character (we don’t want to confuse the kids), but simple custom designs make being an adult at Disney that much for thrilling.
5. Meet the Characters
Waiting in line to meet the characters is not exclusive to kids. That’s why there are no age restrictions. If it’s been your dream to hug Mickey or snap a picture with Elsa, go for it. There’s no shame in it. I’m even willing to bet that if you look around, then you’ll see that you aren’t the only adult at Disney who is excited to meet these classic characters.
4. EPCOT Food and Wine Festival
Another adult activity designed with adults in mind is EPCOT’s Food and Wine Festival. This is the best time to undertake the famous Drink Around the World game that is made only for adults at Disney. You can get a taste of delicacies and fine alcoholic beverages from every continent around the world, from Norway to Japan. The Festival is also popular because it offers special events that only take place once a year. This includes hands-on culinary demonstrations with celebrity chefs and the Beat Concert Series with famous 90s artists like Plain White T’s, Sugar Ray, and Hanson.
EPCOT Food and Wine Festival Dates:
- August 29 – November 23, 2019
3. Have A Photoshoot
Many people might look down on this type of adventure, but even Disney offers souvenir photoshoots. There’s nothing wrong with going around the park with your friends to take photos in this magical village. Disney offers pristine fantastical backdrops that you will want to take advantage of during your adult Disney vacation. Take a photo in front of the exquisite Cinderella Castle, snap a shot with your favorite characters, and don’t forget to get a least one photo in front of the famous Purple Wall.
2. Have A Scavenger Hunt
There are plenty of Disney World Scavenger Hunts for adults available on the internet. This one in particular has been expertly crafted by a former Disney Cast Member. With this game in tow, you will get to experience Disney parks in a whole new way. Learn the coveted behind-the-scenes secrets, be privy to nearly all of Disney’s Hidden Mickeys, and indulge in this fierce competition with the rest of your adult Disney enthusiasts!
1. Ride The Rides
And if nothing else, go to Disney to ride the rides. That’s what the parks are all about after all: fun! Disney is real-life escapism that welcomes kids and the kids at heart. Adults are allowed on vitally every ride at Disney theme parks, from Dumbo and Peter Pan’s Flight to the more rigorous attractions like Space and Splash Mountain. The shows are just as exciting for adults at Disney. Some, like the Carousel of Progress, probably even mean more to us as adults than it did as a child.
